Today concludes Matt Benjamin’s internship at the Hospitality Center.
Matt Benjamin first joined our efforts during the 2023-24 Code Blue season, generously volunteering his time. His dedication led him to join our team as an intern while studying Social Work at Temple University. Since last August, he’s been a vital intern, committing 15 hours weekly while finishing his BSW degree.
In every capacity, Matt has made a significant impact. He connects warmly with guests, building the trust needed for effective support, and his insights have sharpened our programming. This insight was clearly demonstrated in a research project he conducted for a university class during his internship. Matt explored how the Hospitality Center’s mail service connects to wider support, finding a positive link between the length of time guests used the mail service and their access to other resources. He concluded that the necessary check-ins with our social service team to maintain mail access create crucial opportunities to help guests with unmet needs, proving the mail service is essential and encourages vital connections.
Matt’s compassionate presence has touched countless lives, and while his regular shifts as an intern will be greatly missed by everyone here, we’re delighted he’ll remain a volunteer as he pursues a law degree. We deeply appreciate his work and look forward to celebrating his future achievements in law.
