The Norristown Hospitality Center serves over 1,000 clients a year who live below the 2013 Federal Poverty Line of $958 a month. The Center’s clients arrive from across the region but come to Norristown because it is where social services are located. According to the US Census Bureau, the borough of Norristown had a poverty rate of 16.4 (2007-2011). In contrast, Montgomery County, one of the most affluent counties in the Commonwealth, had a poverty rate of 5.7. The individuals served at the Hospitality Center are diverse, and increasingly those that have fallen from the middle class because of job elimination and the housing crisis have come through our doors. We welcome anybody who is poor and struggling.
