The Coronavirus has presented a unique challenge to our day-to-day operations, especially considering we are the only day shelter still operating in our area. We have been able to take precautions against the outbreak while still providing our services.
Client Protocol
Entrance into the Center has been restricted. Clients are allowed inside one at a time to use the bathroom or take a shower, provided they get their temperature taken and are wearing a mask. Since most of our volunteers are in the at-risk demographic of Covid-19, the staff have taken over most of their duties in the kitchen and mailroom. We are still providing our daily breakfast Mon-Fri serving hot meals to the clients in to-go boxes. All interaction is through the front window of the Center, with staff wearing protective gloves, masks, and disinfecting all surfaces after use. As we monitor the situation, we are slowly reintroducing some of our programs such as legal aid and social services in an open-air setting.
Volunteer Protocol
Volunteer opportunities are limited to the mailroom and front desk and all volunteers are required to wear a mask for the duration of their shift. We are currently only allowing experienced volunteers to come to the Center. If you are interested in volunteering at the Hospitality Center, please contact us at [email protected] and we will reach out to you when new volunteers are allowed for training.
