The Coronavirus has presented a unique challenge to our day-to-day operations, especially considering we are the only day shelter still operating in our area. We have been able to take precautions against the outbreak while still providing our services. Entrance into the Center has been restricted, clients are allowed inside one at a time, only to use the bathroom or take a shower. Since most of our volunteers are in the at-risk demographic of Covid-19, the staff have taken over most of their duties in the kitchen and mailroom. We are still providing our daily breakfast Mon-Fri, serving hot meals to the clients. All interaction is through the front window of the Center, with staff wearing protective gloves, masks, and disinfecting all surfaces after use. The staff themselves are rotating, 3 in and 3 out, discounting our kitchen coordinator who is there every morning until breakfast is finished. Staff that are not at the Center are operating remotely, fielding phone calls, helping direct contactless supply drop offs, and completing their own individual tasks.
